A Busy Day with My Son

A busy day with my Son.

Yesterday was expected to be decision day for my son, regarding impending Surgery, to deal with his brain tumour. Having a consultant based in London when you live in Manchester adds to the challenge. So I arranged to pick him up and travel with him by car to London.

I set off home in Bolsover just before 0700, with an estimated journey time to Manchester of two hours. I had allowed extra time due to possible ice conditions passing over the Pennines. Weather was not however a problem but Monday morning traffic heading to Manchester was with Long queue, so the journey extended to two and half hours.

I picked up Stephane and after a couple of false starts getting orientated with the GPS on my phone we were heading South. My plan was to travel down the M6 and then turn off onto the A50 and join the M1, however, however when Stephane was checking his phone is showed two blockages on the route. Then Traffic news confirmed the Junction off the M6 was closed, so we reverted to plan B and took the M6 Toll road. We needed to catch the 1407 train at Milton Keynes to travel into London. News then came in to say that trains between Milton Keynes and London were being delayed for 30 minutes due to an Accident in the morning.

We started to panic as we had a tight schedule and did not expect delays. By this time we knew we would arrive at Milton Keynes park and ride, early so decided to get top the rail station as fast as possible, so that if trains were still be delayed we could catch an Earlier one, but we would need to buy new tickets.

As things turned out our planned train was due to arrive on time. So panic over. Once again we got a little lost orientating our selves but finally arrived in good time at the Neurological hospital. We had to wait some 30 minutes for Stephan’s consultant to see us. The Consultant showed us Stephane’s previous MRI scans and explained that the tumour was touching his brain stem and there is a high risk of further damaging the optic nerve. I would seem that Proton therapy is not an option at the moment wlist the tumour is so close to brain stem as it would damage the brain stem.

The consultant asked Stephane if he was ready to commit to surgery Stephane replied by saying that his sight was very important and he would only risk damaging his sight if it was necessary. The Consultant examined his eyes and made notes about his existing restricted fields of vision. We had some discussions and it became apparent that another MRI scan would be needed to see if there had been any change with the tumour, If the tumour is not growing it may be possible to delay operating and instead try radio therapy as an option. If the tumour is growing them probably an operation would be required earlier.

Unlike Stephane’s previous consultant, his new one is prepared to operate, but warned that he needs to see what kind of tissue the tumour is made up from and this can only be discovered by an exploratory procedure which may result it in one of two outcomes, backing out of the procedure to avoid further damage or completion which might open the door for future proton therapy..

Whilst we we there, he arranged a blood test and we tried to see is the MRI machine was available later in the evening, as it was not, we turned to plan B and are arranging an MRI Scan in the coming weeks to be completed in the morning with a consultation later in the day to plan the way ahead,

The slow progress is a little disappointing and will mean another trip to London before matters can be resolved. We left London during the rush hour by train and were concerned about the amount of traffic leaving Milton Keynes, however as it turns out little was going North so it took some one and half hours to drive home to Bolsover.

We had been on the move all day apart from grabbing a Subway sandwich at the station and so we went out for an evening meal and a pint at 2100 hour.

Stephane stayed overnight and I drove him home this morning and we are now awaiting an update from the Hospital

UK halts Facebook’s WhatsApp data dip

Facebook has been told it must not use data gathered from UK members of its WhatsApp messaging app to target ads on its core social network.

facebook and whatsapp data privacy

The country's Information Commissioner said she did not believe the firm had obtained valid consent for the move and added that people must be given "ongoing control" over their data.

Elizabeth Denham said that Facebook had agreed to "pause" its rollout but had not met all her demands.

Facebook has yet to publicly comment.

The California-based company bought WhatsApp in 2014 and pledged to keep the chat app independent.

However, in August, WhatsApp made changes to its privacy policy, prompting an investigation by the UK watchdog.

"I had concerns that consumers weren't being properly protected, and it's fair to say the enquiries my team have made haven't changed that view," blogged Elizabeth Denham, the Information Commissioner.

"I don't think WhatsApp has got valid consent from users to share the information.

"We've set out the law clearly to Facebook, and we're pleased that they've agreed to pause using data from UK WhatsApp users for advertisements or product improvement purposes."

Enforcement

Ms Denham said she now wanted Facebook and WhatsApp to:

  • offer customers' more details about how their data will be used
  • let WhatsApp members restrict access to their information beyond the existing 30-day cooling-off period
  • let users completely opt-out of the agreement at any time

Ms Denham said that Facebook had not agreed to these terms.

"If Facebook starts using the data without valid consent, they may face enforcement action from my office," she warned.

WhatsApp has already been cautioned warned by European privacy watchdogs about sharing user data with its new parent company.

Valentus Coffee Businesses

I have been a distributor with Valentus since July of this year and have sold a minimum of 16 boxes of diet coffee every month at a small profit.

Now you might ask so what is the big deal. Well Valentus is an MLM company and members of MLM’s usually end up purchasing product to maintain ranking qualifications and are then unable to sell the products because they are worth less on the open market (Ebay, Amazon and the like) than it costs for the distributor to buy, with the result that products gather dust in cupboards and garages around the world and budding Entrepreneurs become disillusioned and give up on their dreams.

MLM’s have a bad name in the marketing industry both for overpriced products and advice to new distributors to sell the products to friends and family. I have sold to hundreds of customers who I have never met and never approached my family and friends.

To my knowledge Valentus is the only company where the distributor price is below the open market value. I live in the UK where due to Brexit the Pound has fallen some 20% against the Dollar, this has effected my profit. However in other markets such as the USA there is still a good profit to be made.

Interest rates around the world are at an all time low with the result that saving money in banks is not going to produce a worthwhile return. I have discovered that rather than leaving £500 sitting in my savings account, where it earns pennies a month, it is better to buy and distribute coffee where it earns Pounds.

Having a product (Coffee) that many people drink every day, which also helps to reduce weight, which in the western world is a growing problem and effecting many people health, provides a huge market place, which will never become saturated.

Retail profit is only part of the income available from the Valentus Business.

I joined Valentus at business builder level committing to purchase 16 boxes of coffee a month, having proved to myself that the business works and is viable I am now looking to expand over the winter and invite interested people to follow my example and start to take control of their future.

I am looking for a total of ten people who can afford to rotate £500 a month which will qualify them at Ruby level once they start sharing the opportunity with at least tow people.

The reason I am doing this is due to Compensation plan which rewards people, who build the business. I believe that customers initially are more important than distributors as without customers you have no business, however having distributors brings in greater rewards.

Working in the UK

Working in the UK

I have been working part time in the UK for the past eight months, after a gap of some 15 years whilst living abroad. Finding work was a bit of a challenge, due to my age. There are a few companies that employ pensioners, however I was seeking an active outdoor job having formally been a sailing Instructor. I was interviewed for a water-sports vacancy, which would have been ideal but heard nothing and then I saw an advert for Go Ape Instructors in Sherwood Forest. I love teaching and sharing knowledge and being a former adventure racer saw the possibilities. After attending a half-day group interview, I was selected for training. I had some concerns as the supervisors were younger than me and fellow trainees might be fitter but as it turned out, my knowledge, adaptability and work ethics resulted in and employment offer..

Some fellow instructors did not know quite what to make of me and would step in and offer to help to assist me and I would stand aside, but as time went on I realised I was more than their equal in some areas and even in the physically activity of climbing zip lines I could hold my own.

I have always been the type of person who is reliable and on time and will look for jobs to do rather than stand around doing nothing. Looking after customers safety on the treetops course is paramount and on many occasions customers need encouragement to complete some challenges on the course. One thing I am good at is pushing people to their limits. Throughout the season, I helped many people overcome their fear of heights, with only one or two not being able to overcome their fears.

I ended up working a number of extra days as a result of people missing shifts, this was great for me. The company distribute a simple spreadsheet which show the start times or days that instructors are required to work, but often people forget to check with the result that those on shift have to work harder to cover the shortfall. This to me is a new phenomenon and I cannot remember this occurring in the past. When working work should come first, otherwise how else can you pay your way in life.

I will be working weekend only for the next month finally ending my contract on the first weekend in December and I hope that I will be invited back for a new contract next year.

Rather than sitting around during the winter, I am turning my attention back to my online business, which involves selling Diet Coffee. The product is excellent for people who love coffee and want to lose weight, just by replacing the coffee they current drink with another brand.  ! have sold over 100 boxes since July.

VISION CARE ORPHAN HOME – A “Children of the Landfill” client

VISION CARE ORPHAN HOME – A “Children of the Landfill” client

The Green Fire mission here is to enhance their already existing program.

Here is an overview of the conditions these orphanages address.

At the beginning of the 21st Century the children of the world are facing an undeclared assault upon their childhood as they suffer as a result of poverty, sexual exploitation, abuse as well as becoming the innocent victims of wars and the HIV/AIDS epidemics.Ten years ago the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted and the UN Secretary General has stated “we have no higher priority, no prouder achievement, than our work for the rights of children!”

A few facts indicate it may be a little early “for we the people” to be proud of our achievement:

    • 12 million children die before reaching their fifth year

    • 100 million homeless children living in the streets around the world.

    • 250,000 children die every week from diseases and malnutrition.

    • 2 million children are objects of sexual abuse – child pornography and demand for  child prostitutes has increased globally.

    • 20 million children are refugees or internally displaced in their homeland.

    • 10 million children are child slaves.

    • Millions of girls are ‘missing’ as a result of foeticide, infanticide and neglect.

    • Millions of children spend their whole life surviving on a landfill

Millions of children are being orphaned as their parents die of AIDS related illnesses. The figures are unimaginable – already 11 million children in sub-Saharan Africa alone have been orphaned by the AIDS epidemic and reliable sources estimate that by 2010 there will be more than 30 million children orphaned by AIDS decimating parents.

Credit: Womenaid International, http://www.womenaid.org/wcwi.htm

Their is a very clear reason and purpose in “Children of the Landfill” mission, the children.

Green Fire plans to bring education and commerce to these children.

I present you with an article I just received from the head of VISION CARE ORPHAN HOME, an orphanage in Uganda.

VISION CARE ORPHAN HOME

Introduction:

In our project area number of Orphans, Semi Orphans and Street Children are found. The problem of orphans / street children is acute due to the Allied Democratic Force Rabbles insurgence, Natural hazards, urbanization and industrialization. Due to the deaths of HIV/AIDS affected persons, Re-marriage of deserted / widowed / divorce women, absence of love and security in the families, Family disputes, Unwanted pregnancy of Trafficking / Sexually exploited girls; these orphan and street children are left without care and support. These children are involved in rag picking; pick pocketing and participating in anti social, criminal activities. Therefore, we envisage mainstreaming these children in the national building by providing care, support and protection in our Vision Care Orphan Children Home.

History Background

Vision Care Orphanage is located in Musasa Village-kyondo sub count Kasese District Rewenzori sub region of Uganda.

The history of this orphanage center is so sad after it had its roots in the early 90's During the time of the Allied Democratic Forces insurgence in our region (mountain Rwenzori Slopes),These rabbles killed many people in these hills of the Rwenzori mountains, so my grandmother Constance Kamalha who was a natural birth attendant was one day hosting pregnant mothers at her house when rabbles attacked and Killing 15 women who had just given birth.

Constance had nothing to do but to take care of the new born babies whose mothers had just been killed with the help of Red cross and the Catholic parish around the village, it was by God mercy that she was left alone, so her home ended up becoming an orphanage center. When she died in 2003, this orphanage collapsed.

In 2012 when I completed the university, with the help of my parents, I decided to begin a small orphanage center to fulfill the dream of my fallen grandmother.

Our Mission:

Mainstreaming the Orphan, Semi Orphan and Street children in the national building by providing care, support & protection through shelter, food, and education is our mission.

The Project – An Overview:

The project proposed in this scheme is meant for additional support to run the orphan children home.

This orphanage home is aiming to provide care, support and protection for 150 but so far 37orphan & street children. This home has three Care Takers; a doctor is conducting health check-up & providing medicines. All the inmates (child residents) are being provided with 3 time’s nutritious food, one set of books and 2 sets of uniforms and school fees.

Every child has opportunity for indoor and out-door recreation and play facilities along with training in crafts and hobbies.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

The problem of orphan/ street children is acute due to urbanization and industrialization. Recent floods in our area aggravated the situation further when most people lost lives.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub4uAqkeL3Y

Due to the Deaths of AIDS affected persons, Re-marriage of Widowed/ Divorced women, Absence of love and security, Unwanted pregnancy of Sexually exploited girls; these orphan & street children are left without care and support.

These children are involved in rag picking, pick pocketing & participating in anti social, criminal activities.

How will this project solve this problem?

We have identified orphans & street children & providing food and education facilities for all children with the help of you the sponsors.

We are arranging teaching facilities in nearby schools & providing home tuitions, health check-up, medicines, cosmetics, one set of books & 2sets of uniform every year.

Every child is being provided with nutritional diet, indoor & outdoor recreation and play facilities and training in crafts and hobbies.

Potential Long Term Impact

This project has potential & impact full in main streaming of orphans & street children. Their basic needs are met & they will get new life through gaining knowledge, vocational skills & life skills. They will get love & affection as if their parents provides. Their confidence level will increase & become good asset to the community. They are developed physically & psychologically & made as good & productive citizens. They will inspire by philanthropy & show humanity towards the community.

Founders Brewing Porter – Crown Liquors in Seymour Connecticut

Founders Brewing Porter – Crown Liquors in Seymour Connecticut

Lately I have been going through writer’s block.  I have been wanting to do a few crockpot blog posts on https://markethive.com/group/crockpot but life keeps getting in the way.  It requires focus.  It is usually while I am waiting four to five hours that I sit down, relax and open a beer.

The beer I am reviewing today is the Founders Brewing Porter.  Founders Brewing is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  I bought the six pack below at Crown Liquors at 61 New Haven Road; Seymour, CT 06483.  If you go in say hi to my friend Eric for me.  He will say “who” until you say “guy with Irish girlfriend”.

I bought this one as I saw the words “brewed for us”.  I said to myself okay.  Then I saw “dark, rich and sexy” and I immediately knew they were talking to me.  Okay I am being a little silly here.  I think the world needs more humor and I am happy to share.

This particular beer was rich for me.  Unique but rich.  I do like dark beers like Guinness (my favorite) but this one a little bit too much.  I had two but I knew my stomach would not be able to handle a third one.  I have always imagined having a party where guests could try different beers I have had.  I would include this one in it.  Too rich for me but I believe others would like it better.  I think younger 20 something me would have liked it better.

Besides my review I want others to see what other people are saying.

Until next time, all the best,

Wild Blue Premium Blueberry Lager – Stop & Shop in Seymour, CT

I created the group https://markethive.com/group/beer so entrepreneurs and beer lovers could come together and share stories.  There are so many craft beer brewing companies starting up.  I believe some of their successes tell the story of being a true entrepreneur.

My first review is Wild Blue Premium Blueberry Lager.  I bought a six pack at Stop and Shop at 15 Franklin St; Seymour, CT 06483.  A picture of my six pack is below

Besides my review I wanted to give readers to glance what others thought about it.

In all honestly I thought it was okay.  I like blueberries and I do like beer.  I was able to taste both.  It wasn’t too sweet and I liked the color.  I am just not sure if it is a good combination.  I gave it 2.75 stars on Untappd.  I don’t think I will buy it again but glad I experimented with it.

Feel free to checkout my pictures and reviews on Instagram and Untappd.  My username for both is alzibluk and on Instagram use the hashtag “alsbeerreviews”.

Introducing Green Fire Engineered Reclamation

Green Fire Engineered Reclamation

Green Fire is a passionate multi-disciplinary organization specializing in carefully engineered waste Remediation and Reclamation.

A number of years ago our group came together with a focus on developing ways of economically resolving the global epidemic of health risks facing society from its mounting waste. The result is Green fire Engineered Reclamation.

Green Fire Engineered Reclamation is an engineering company, made up of entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists and academic experts focused on the world's waste problem, initially the open landfills.

We pride ourselves on our ability as a collective group to integrate all appropriate technologies, Green Fire's as well as third party technologies. We integrate technologies to build the best possible solution for the landfill and the local community.

We are focused on landfill mining. With our technologies we are able to reclaim and re-purpose the landfill by removing the raw and useful materials from what has been rejected as waste, producing only inert material to be used for new purposes.

Here is the problem we are addressing.

Open Dumpsites

Open Dumpsites are a global problem. There are approximately 350 recognized open dump sites globally. They receive roughly 40% of the world’s waste and they serve about 3.5 – 4 billion people. That's half of the world's population.

The 50 biggest dumpsites directly affect the daily lives of 64 million people, a population the size of France.

There have been and still are international calls for solutions to solve this escalating global health emergency. Green Fire has the solution.

What we do is process the waste through the “application of heat.”

Green Fire has a patented technology several years in development and with several million dollars invested.. It is now ready to be taken into useful production.

The Green Fire Technology is an efficient electrochemical system powered by electricity that produces an intense field of radiant energy, a plasma, that causes the breaking apart of the molecular bonds of solid, liquid and gaseous compounds of materials both hazardous and nonhazardous.

Our process is a two stage process.

The first transforms the organic (carbon-based) materials into an ultra-clean, synthetic gas, called syngas. The clean syngas is then converted into transportation fuels such as ethanol and diesel, or industrial products like hydrogen and methanol. The syngas is used as a substitute for natural gas for heating and is used for electrical generation.

After the first phase, the waste materials flow into a second closed chamber where they are superheated using an electricity – conducting gas called plasma.

In this secondary stage of the Green Fire process, inorganic (non-carbon-based) materials are transformed into environmentally inert raw materials.

That brings us to the recovered materials

The recovered materials are used with appropriate technologies that include 3D Printing for site specific manufacturing and fabrication. The ultimate focus is to create a local manufacturing business for the betterment of community commerce.

Green Fire provides the education and training to local qualified individuals and professionals. All education provided is supported by a mentoring program until a comfort level for independent operations has been reached at which point support and oversight will be minimizes to an as needed basis.

We build small low cost villages with our processes and materials. We provide designs to manufacture low cost housing for the local village.

Our villages are designed for a population range from 50 to 150 individuals, although some are smaller, and larger villages of up to 2,000 individuals can exist as networks of smaller sub-communities.

These villages are provided electricity, fuels and clean water utilities as well as training and communication systems from Green Fire operations.

Green Fire Villages are intentional villages whose goal is to become completely autonomous and more socially, economically and environmentally safe.

Who lives in these initial villages?

Most important inhabitants are the Landfill Pickers that already populate the landfill, then Green Fire staff and employees, and the additional community support personnel such as medical, and emergency staff.

It is the people of the village that provide the labor for Green Fire operations.

There are approximately 30 million people who directly survive on and make the landfill an integral part of their lifestyle. These people have formed and are a part of a global organization of Landfill Pickers. The Landfill Pickers are the initial target of Green Fire.

It is our mission to enhance the living standard of these people and the surrounding communities.

Green Fire is dedicated to the children living and existing on the landfills around the world. The humanitarian project Green Fire sponsors for this task is called the “Children of the Landfill” project. We are crowd funding and will introduce the campaign in a few days.

In summary:

1. Landfill dumpsites are a significant health hazard in many locations around the world and influences about one half of the world's population

2. Green Fire builds a facility which with the use of our technology converts landfill dump site contents into useful by products

3. The output of the process has many potential uses, one of which is to use the material in a 3D printer to create pre-fab housing material which initially will be used to assemble self-sustaining housing for the workers at the landfill.

4. Other outputs are clean electricity, fuels and inert raw materials.
